I grew up in Southend-on-Sea and have lived in Essex all my life. I have been a Loughton resident for over 15 years and am married with three children.
I have been active in community groups and residents associations around Essex for the last 30 years. I am also an enthusiastic local historian and the author of numerous books on the county’s history including several on the Loughton and Epping Forest area.

My family and I have lived in Loughton since 1981 and I have been a librarian with three local authorities. I am also an active member of Loughton Methodist Church and a volunteer for Voluntary Care.
I have been a District Councillor for St Johns Ward since 2002 and have been particularly active in planning and conservation matters, and on the Housing Appeals Panel. I was Chairman of Epping Forest District Council 2007-2008 and portfolio holder for Community Wellbeing 2004-2006.

I have lived in Loughton since 1981 and my interests are history, conservation, transport and heritage. I have written and lectured on these subjects, and on parliamentary subjects and political history. I am a member or trustee of several local charities.
My recreations: public speaking, gardening, winemaking, local history.
I am married (to Councillor Caroline Pond) with one son. I have been a member of Loughton Town Council since 1996 – Chairman in 1997/98 and Town Mayor 2004/05, also a member of Essex County Council since 2005.
