The Murray Hall
The Murray Hall Looking for a venue for an event or an activity? Try Loughton’s Murray Hall in Borders Lane.
The Murray Hall is the town council’s most ambitious project to date.
The community centre was named the Murray Hall in honour of well known former Loughton resident, Lord Murray, who died in 2004. Len Murray was renowned not just for his national position as general secretary of the TUC for many years, but for his great contribution to the life of the Loughton community, and naming the hall after him is a fitting tribute.
The Murray Hall is a modern building fitted out to a high specification, purpose built as a community hall and with a congenial atmosphere. Of course, it is fully accessible to people with disabilities. The building is available for hire for all sorts of different purposes - club nights and groups’ activities, meetings, classes, weddings and family celebrations, theatre performances, social occasions - the list is endless. It can be hired on a one-off basis or for regular events.

Community Centre Hall Within the building there is a large airy hall, about 140 square metres, with wooden flooring ideal for dancing.
Double doors open out onto decking and overlook the informal garden, which hirers will also be welcome to use.
There will be a demountable stage available if required and the hall can be set in various different layouts:
theatre style, for performances, seating about 120
seated at dining tables for around 100
with no chairs or tables laid out, when the capacity will depend on the nature of the event.
As well as the main hall, there is a fully fitted kitchen for food preparation and serving and a bar area for hirers’ use.
The council intends to apply for a licence to allow civil marriage ceremonies on the premises. Parking is provided at the front of the building.
