Parks Presentation
Published: 20 July 2018
Loughton Town Mayor, Stephen Murray,
accompanied by Councillor David Wixley, chairman of the Recreation Committee, presented
the Grounds Maintenance Team at Epping Forest District with a certificate of
appreciation for their work at the Roding Valley Recreation Ground.
Cllr Murray thanked them for
their excellent standard of work which had enabled the town council to receive
several awards in the Essex Playing Fields annual competitions. He also reported that their work was greatly
appreciated by local residents and visitors to the grounds. The Recreation Ground combined with the adjoining
Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve makes the valley of the river Roding
running through this part of our district one of the most treasured environments within the
Epping Forest District.
Cllr Wixley commented that he was
pleased to have this opportunity to thank the team personally for their work on
the Roding Valley as he had used the fields all his life and felt a great
affection for the area.
In response, Phil Hawkins, Grounds
Maintenance Manager, said that the award was most appreciated by the team and
would now take pride of place in the Parks office. He viewed his teams’ work as a successful partnership
with the town council.
On the Recreation Ground, the
town council provides facilities for athletics, cricket, football and tennis.
There is also a children’s play area and outdoor gym. The next major project for the council will
be the refurbishment of the football changing rooms and adjacent car park area.
We have also won awards from the
Essex Playing Fields Association for the Willingale Road Playing Field and for
our playgrounds.
