Lighting of Loughton’s Beacon for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Published: 12 May 2022

To all Loughton Residents, please come along to the lighting of the Beacon at the top of Hillyfields in Loughton to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday
2 June 2022.

Stroll across to the top of Hillyfields Open Space, IG10 2NH from 9.15pm onwards, bring your own refreshments and enjoy the music in the build up to the Lighting Ceremony at 9.45pm.

Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mr Amrik Sandhu MBA, one of the Queen’s official representatives for the country, together with Loughton Town Mayor, and a Town Cryer, will lead the proceedings and pay tribute to the Queen’s dedication to the country and the Commonwealth and the countdown to the lighting of the special gas beacon.

Join in the rousing renditions of songs, lots of flag waving, and the National Anthem.  The evening will close with Auld Lang Syne, at 10pm.

Loughton Town Council is proud to take part in this national tribute in which over 1,500 beacons will be lit across the length and breadth of the country and overseas.  We have previously lit the beacon in this location in 2012 as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and in 2016 for the Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations.
